The email of a person is his own personal space in the world wide web. It is the home of his personality, and he expects to make use of it according to how he sees fit. This is the reason that while some people appreciate mails from online companies (some even sign up and post their email addresses on websites for new offers and deals), others hate advertisements and subscribe all unfamiliar addresses in their spam and junk folders. So for advertisers looking to market their products productively through email, the question exists: how can they make their emails appeal to almost all email users?



Simplicity and Tone – those are the operative words when it comes to drafting an effective marketing email. The first one reminds that users appreciate information without too much bling; just be concise and frank about the offer and users will simply click for more if they are interested. Remember that email host sites sometimes screen email content and if there appears to be too many graphic or details, the advertisement might just end up in the trash bin. So to promote a legitimate offer, be simple and realistic.



The second reminder is the tone: never be too formal or informal in the format or style of writing. If one uses a very serious approach, then the younger generation of users, which compose a great majority of email users, just might not take interest. On the other hand, if an email advertisement is too informal it might seem like a prank and sound too unreal. So take the middle road and write in a familiar and conversational tone – and without a doubt, there’s a greater chance of being noticed.

Profitable Email Marketing - Tips to Remember for an Effective Email Marketing

After reading this article I have to disagree with the point Sean Mize makes about "spamming your customers." I don't think just because you send two emails in one day or more often than once a month that constitutes spamming. The key is to set the right expectations and to be consistent.

If your subscriber base is used to getting only one email from you per month, then by all means keep it that way. But if you have gotten them used to 3 to 5 emails per week, then that is ok too. Just keep it consistent and always include a link to allow your readers to unsubscribe from your mailing list.

Here are some tips that would help you with email marketing.



1. The last thing you want to do is lose the integrity of the company with just a wrong move with sending an email. From there, you can send an email to them to confirm that they have opted to join your email list. That would be clean and honest email marketing.



2. If you want your email to be read, provide a good subject. There are many spam blockers that would prevent your email from coming in to the mailbox of some people. So your subject should not sound as if you are just making a sale. You should attract readers and not spam blockers.



3. Your email should also urge the reader to do an action. If your email sent is not doing this, then you might just be wasting your time and your customers. Urge them to go and purchase your product.



4. Make sure that you are not spamming your customers. Do not mail them twice a day or else they would grow tired and would just delete any email from you. Once a month could be a good interval for mailing them updates or newsletters.

Email Marketing - To Emoticon or Not, That is the Question

Well... what can I say?

I think this article is spot on! Some people might not enjoy reading an email full of emoticons, but others will not mind at all. :-P

Ok... now seriously.

The point the author makes in this article is that if you are targeting a general audience, you might be better off refraining from the use of emoticons. The main reason is that those who like/tolerate them are not going to miss them on your emails, but those who don't understand or just don't like them will probably unsubscribe.

An article entitled, “For better or worse, adults learn to say it with emoticons” by Alex Williams points out the juvenile nature of emoticons, yet it also pinpoints the growing acceptance of the symbols among adults.



For those unfamiliar with the term emoticon you may recognize them by their smiley faces in email correspondence.



Emoticons are blasted by critics as making full use of the English language an archaic notion. Users started out in the 90’s using simple black and white smiley faces or even symbols such as :) to demonstrate their emotion.



Users will indicate emoticons help them convey feelings more quickly without the need for extra words. When time is of the essence emoticons apparently can help shave precious minutes off common electronic correspondence.



Forum users are notorious for using emoticons in their posts. Many have argued that the use of emoticons is simply helpful in letting other users know their intent when writing. Because our words can be misunderstood the feeling is that by using emoticons we can help readers understand if we are being sarcastic or if we meant the post in fun. Emoticons can alert others to times when we are sad or just plain silly.



Emoticons have even gone hi-tech in that some have moved to animated status with emoticons that demonstrate laughter, fear or surprise.



Some business owners are not happy with the use of emoticons. In a traditional sense they consider such use to be infantile and does not exude a professional approach to correspondence.



While some would agree, others side heavily with the use of emoticons in everyday correspondence – even business correspondence.



Emoticons to email marketing in this regard; you will probably have greater success in email marketing if you do not use emoticons.



Now, why would I say that when I just showed how many individuals are using emoticons and love to use them on a personal level?



The primary reason I would not use emoticons in email marketing has to do with reaching the greatest number of potential customers.



I firmly believe that emoticon users will be forgiving if you do not use emoticons, but those who despise the use of emoticons may not give your presentation a fair hearing if you decide to use emoticons.



As a business owner you will want as much opportunity for business success as possible and if it means you must be more creative in using actual words to express yourself it may be a small price to pay to gain the largest potential for positive response.



When it comes to emoticons you can love them or leave them, but in email marketing it may be best to leave them for use in more informal email correspondence.
